I have been battling anxiety my whole life. In 2013 is when it took a turn for the worse. I was left alone at 17 to raise a baby on my own. I had a horrible, very sick, very painful pregnancy. I thought it was just my hormones being all out whack because of being pregnant. I battled this for 4 years, until in 2017 I was rushed to the hospital because I couldn’t feel my body. I was unresponsive, and my body was turning blue. I had an episode of Bell’s palsy. I was also diagnosed with chronic anxiety and conversion disorder. I am in therapy once a week, and on anxiety medication daily. I used to be on 7 medications and now I am down to 3! It’s taken me a long time to get to where I am. I wanted to share with you my coping skills and the things I do to keep myself calm.
Blogging is great, or even journaling! Writing down how you feel and getting it all out in the open, helps you clear your head and will help you relax. After your done writing make sure you just crumple it up and throw it away! Don’t read it. Just get it all out of your head and throw it away. When your done you will have a nice clear head and it will help you calm down.
Exercise is another great way to clear your head. Your not focusing on how bad your anxiety is. Go outside and go for a walk, join a dancing class. Your to busy having fun that your forget all about why your anxious. Dancing is my favorite way to exercise. You get so into it, and your having so much fun that your anxiety just melts away. Plus you feel great afterwards!
When my house is a mess and there is clutter everywhere my anxiety is heightened. My therapist told me to try cleaning, and he told me while I’m cleaning think Of it as I’m cleaning my brain of all the bad anxiety and stress. When your done cleaning you should feel relaxed and clear minded. I personally did not believe this. I thought it was the dumbest thing ever, but I told him I would try it. Surprisingly it actually works! In a way it is relaxing and I’m staying busy by cleaning so I forget why I’m anxious.
Many of people have told me to try gardening because it is very soothing. I’ve always wanted to start a garden and I finally did! I had a little helper to. My daughter got down and dirty with me and we had a blast! It took us most of the day, but let me tell you I didn’t have any anxiety. My daughters smile on her face made it even better. We can’t wait to watch our garden grow. Knowing you worked so hard on something makes you feel accomplished and great about yourself! I really recommend trying gardening, because it is very relaxing and a great stress reliever.

I love painting when my anxiety is high. Even when I mess up and I get frustrated and annoyed, I tell myself there is no right way to do art. Why are you getting frustrated. Your mistakes make you unique. It is very relaxing and not expensive to do! Which makes it even more relaxing!
I hope this helps you guys out with some ideas to try when your anxiety is high! There are a few other things that I do to help my anxiety. If your interested I can do another post about them!
Stay calm and relaxed! <3
